Without commenting on the legitimacy or necessity of the attack on Iran, I want to question why gas companies immediately raised gas prices, charging American consumers more for fuel that stations had already purchased and stored in their tanks.
They continue to increase prices based on speculation about future delivery disruptions and reduced production due to the war.
Gas companies earn billions in profits annually from American consumers. So, where is it written that these companies cannot accept slightly lower profits temporarily to keep gas prices reasonable for the American public?
I am confident gas companies could endure making a few million dollars less in profits for a short period to help Americans with lower prices at the pump. Instead, they refuse to reduce profits even briefly and continue to gouge consumers.
Part of the problem is that many politicians are closely tied to big oil interests and would rather see Americans suffer at the pump than ask their oil industry allies to absorb temporary losses and accept smaller profits.
